RSS FAQ
What is RSS?
RSS, which stands for Really Simple Syndication, is an easy way for you to receive up-to-date job listings from EBR via your computer desktop.
You can set up a free RSS job 'feed', which is simply content sent from the site to you.
Why would I use RSS?
* No personal details are required so there is no danger of getting spammed.
* Be regularly alerted with fresh jobs when you don't have time to visit the EBR site. Instead, the job listings come to you.
* An RSS job feed notifies you frequently throughout the day so you can find out about suitable jobs faster.
How do I access RSS?
Three-Step Guide
1. Download an install an RSS reader: Easy-to-use readers include NewsFire (Mac OS) and FeedReader (Windows). Set up usually takes about 5 minutes. Once you have installed the software return to EBR to complete the step below.
2. Subscribe by adding the job search feed into the reader. Copy and paste the website address (www.ebr.com.au/cmsme/rss.php) below into your RSS reader.
Feed title : Latest EBR Jobs
* Enable JavaScript in your web browser for your feed to function correctly.
* Your reader will give you a summary of the job to review when a new job matching this criteria is listed on the site.
3. Choose how frequently you want to be updated: Set up your reader to refresh the feed at a rate that suits you. Jobs are posted to the site every 15 minutes.
Set up a EBR RSS feed in Firefox
Click the link www.ebr.com.au/cmsme/rss.php while browsing the EBR website using Firefox. It display EBR jobs available via RSS.
Delete a EBR RSS feed
You can remove a EBR RSS feed through your RSS reader – see your reader’s help menu for instructions.
Reduce the frequency of EBR RSS notifications
There are two ways you can reduce the frequency of receiving EBR RSS notifications.
1. Make sure the search criteria for your feed is specific to what you are looking for. Include the Location, Work Type such as Part Time or Full Time, and add keywords so you only receive jobs that are really relevant to you.
2. You can change the settings in your RSS reader to check the EBR site less often. You may like to be notified every 60 minutes or every four hours, for example. The reader may refer to this as ‘refreshing the feed’.
Increase the frequency of EBR RSS notifications
If you are not receiving EBR RSS feeds as often as you would like:
1. Check the settings in your RSS reader and make sure that the refresh rate of the EBR feed is set to a period of time that suits you. Feed refresh rates typically range between five minutes and 24 hours. EBR uploads new jobs to the site every fifteen minutes.
2. Make sure that the search criteria for your feed is not too narrow. If you have used lots of search criteria, the EBR site may not be able to find a matching job. Try creating a job feed with wider search criteria and trial it to ensure that the results are what you expect.
Set up RSS for a mobile phone or personal digital assistant (PDA)
You’ll need to download a suitable RSS reader for your particular device such as Palm, Blackberry or Nokia. Then simply follow the instructions for the reader.
Note that your telecommunications carrier may charge for you to receive messages via RSS.
