Job seeker tip

Thought of the Month - JuneThought of the Month - June

This month, step outside of your own stress and worries and consider the broader issues and experiences around the world:

  • Disease: Every week in Australia, three children will die of cancer. Every year 114,000 people will be diagnosed with cancer. In 2010 alone, 43,000 people will die of this disease in Australia. These examples demonstrate only Australia's experience of this deadly disease.
  • Animal Cruelty: Thousands of whales are inhumanely killed every year. In 2008 alone one factory ship killed 551 whales. This is just one of hundreds of examples of the inhumane treatment of animals worldwide.
  • Hunger: 25,000 people die every day from hunger or hunger-related causes. This is 9,125,000 people a year which is approximately half of the population of Australia. These statistics mean that one person dies approximately every three and a half seconds, many of which are children.
  • Conflict: As of 2006, the United Nations reported than approximately 600,000 Iraqi civilians have been killed in conflict.

If you have been moved by this information, dedicate this month to helping others. Whether by donating to a charity or not-for-profit organisation, fostering an animal before they are put down, or helping an elderly person cross the road, you can make a difference to a person or animal's life!

Now is the time to act! You can see some of the organisations that EBR donate to by clicking here.
